Contrary to the opinion of many, studying the humanities has tremendous value in the modern economy. As we become an increasingly automated culture, the skills in highest demand are those at the core of a humanities-based education. Students in fields like history, English, and foreign languages should be encouraged by the opportunities ahead of them.

The Well-Rounded Professional provides a clear guide to humanities students and graduates on how to succeed in the traditional business world. It focuses on the five key skills learned studying the humanities – written and verbal communication, data analysis and interpretation, innovative and strategic thinking, cultural awareness, and leadership. It shows how to develop these skills, why they are sought after in the job market, and how humanists can develop successful careers.

Kevin Switaj combines his own experience turning his history PhD into a successful career in Government contracting, interviews with a wide range of humanities majors and academics, and extensive research to compile a compelling and insightful narrative that provides humanities students, graduate students, and graduates actionable tips for professional success.

Shortform copy – for use in blurbs, etc.

Studying the humanities provides people not just with intellectual stimulation but also with the tools to succeed in the modern economy. Kevin Switaj’s new book The Well-Rounded Professional lays out the five most valuable skills gained during a humanities-based education, and how it positions individuals for professional success. This work also provides practical guidance to students and graduates on the job hunt and expanding one’s skills once in the workforce.
